Historians clearly dismissed the existence of The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. However, British journalist Peter Haining claim his convictions in his book “Sweeney Todd: The Real Story of the Demon Barber of Fleet Street”. What can be proven with ease is; Sweeney Todd is a multi awards musical thriller with numerous stage productions and cinematic adaptations. And a retro looking barber shop in Los Angeles.
From a marketing point of view, Deus Ex Machina did a good job at packaging the custom bike and surf culture. Its consistent and attractive branding made it accessible to the mass. Did that bring a few douchebags and phonies in the mix, it surely did. It always does with this type of things. I doubt their flagship stores are the destinations of choice for bikers and surfers, nor that I think it was the intention of the company. Which would explain clearly the annoyance of life long riders, that’s understandable. I simply appreciate it for what it has offer; cool looking customs bike, nice art and decent coffee.
Denim Days New York is a festival celebrating all-things indigo. It was founded by House of Denim, HTNK, Modefabriek and Kingpins. It’s a great way to spend the day with your obsession. The venue is filled with inspiring, knowledgeable and passionate denim enthusiasts. I look forward for the second edition in 2018 and hope they’ll revisit their DJ selection, because let’s be honest, as much as I loved the event, the soundtrack was awful. You can’t merge the best fabric in the world with the shittiest music!
Did you get his book yet? Very impressive.

As an international design competition, The Dieline Awards presented by Neenah Packaging recognize the best packaging design in the world. The geometry of the Nike Inflatables 2015/16 Basketball and Soccer ball redesign by OIA Global caught my attention as well as the typography works on Henderson’s Spiced Cider by Sand Creative and the redesign of Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Whiskey by Studio MPLS.
The HOW Design Live conference is a 5 days weekend covering a wide range of design and creativity subjects. From branding, packaging and interactive design to leadership, management, and entrepreneurship. The conference opening was a complete nightmare, I can’t remember experiencing such a poorly designed checkin process before. The irony for such a well known and respected design conference. Luckily, the excitement and inspirations received from the talks and presentations completely made up for it. With iconic creatives and brilliant thinkers such as Ken Carbone, Aaron Draplin, Josh Higgins, Tiffany Shlain, James Victore, Debbie Milman, Stefan Sagmeister and more.
